{Yarn Along}

This past weekend I finally finished up on my rae, I don't have it blocked yet though so I didn't bother to photograph it for this week. Next week! I've never blocked anything (I normally don't knit anything very large...), so that will be new.
I had to frog the
lovey dovey, it was coming out so big that I didn't think Lotte would wear it until she was probably 4. I'm going to go down a needle size and see if that helps. I'm excited to start it over again, because it was looking really cute before I realized just how wide it looked.

I started on these little mice for my sister's babies that will be arriving sometime this fall.

*yes, another sister of mine is expecting multiples, just in case you think "deja-vu"! *

These little suckers are the tiniest things that I've ever knit. Normally I'd crochet something this small without a second thought, but wowee, these were a bit of a learning curve.
My wooden double pointed needles just didn't seem small enough for some of those ssk's.
After I relaxed a bit though, the pieces got a bit easier, and my stitches got a little looser, which helped a great deal.
I've finished up a head, a body, two feet, and one ear. The feet were the strangest things I've ever knit. It works in a knit, slip, knit, slip, knit type pattern. And in the end you have two sides, and the whole thing turns inside out. That was a surprise!
(I'm sure all you knitting pros are laughing at this right now, but It really did amaze me!)

I can't wait to get these little guys assembled, they're so cute! I'm not making the entire mobile in the pattern though, just the little mouses.

I haven't done much reading other than patterns this week, but Lotte sure has.

I had to remedy the situation by packing the books in so tightly that she can no longer pull them out. She's a little miffed at me, but I think she'll get over it.

  1. The mice seem like a fun project even if it is fiddly to work with. I smiled at you outfoxing your daughter with the books. I bet you she will figure it out eventually!

  2. I can't tell you how often our children's bookshelves look like that too! :) I think it's a universal condition.

  3. Susan Anderson's knitted animals are so, so, darling - surely worth the effort! Love that Lotte is so "enthusiastic" about books . . . even if it does make for a mess!

  4. so happy to hear that about the lovey dovey. sorry. but I had SUCH a bummer of a time and it came out big enough to fit me, nearly. feeling now like it wasn't just me. even good knitters had the same issue.
    hugs!

    1. It's not just you! I've read about quite a few people having to start over on this one. Did you ever get yours finished again?

  5. We have made a "library" in our other room- the room the smallies don't go into much (I also use as a studio) and it has HELPED, but then every horizontal surface in our house is just a mess (aghhhhh) Those mice are just so cute- I love the yarn you are using. I'm off to check out your rae and lovey dovey now :)

  7. I have done two lovey dovey's and yes, the pattern runs large. I did one in cotton and one in wool, both with the same large problem. I just decided they will get a lot of wear!
Love seeing your wee one on the books, all my babies use to do the same thing!

    1. I started over, and took it down to a size 6 needle, and now it looks like it's going to be the right size. 9-12 months (but probably more like an 18 month.)

  9. Lotte looks like she got caught in the act...too cute that look on her face. The mice sound like such a sweet little newborn gift. So... if your sisters have multiples that means you could be so lucky too ; )

  10. What sweet little mice :) I often find I don't know what on earth is going on with a pattern while knitting until suddenly everything becomes clear, (or not always :)
And I'm left thinking... ahh, so that's what it's all about:)

  12. I love to make little animals and toys! I haven't done it in a while, but they are a fave of mine. You'll get used to how Susan Anderson does things eventually. She can be unconventional, but her stuff comes out so cute!

  13. The knitted mice are so cute! My daughter has Down syndrome and loves to pull things out. I found a basket and put all her hardboard baby books in it so she could "read" whenever she liked. It's worked rather well. Your dauughter is adorable. I love that age!
